Exhibition Hanging System Design ◦ System Installation Plan

For our 2nd & 3rd iterations of this exhibition, we looked to improve on an already efficient and adaptable solution. We focused on trying to eliminate material waste and even minimize any excess elements—developing a hanging system made almost entirely from full sheets of plywood.

These standard, unmodified, sheets of plywood were completely re-purposed by the client for their following exhibition.

A summary of the design considerations:

Simplification of the install process by proposing a basic, multi-panel triangular unit, that could be easily assembled & flexibly arranged, allowing different lengths of wall and complex spatial variety
Utilizing the natural stability of the triangles to be both wall and structure, with no wasted panels and no additional structural frame
An additional cost reduction from the previous version—aside from the (reusable) plywood, only standard metal hardware such as hinges, straps and adjustable feet were required
Material & formal adaptability—triangles are not the only geometries possible (though perhaps the simplest); likewise many other types of sheet goods could be used
