HONG KONG
1,100 SF LIVE-WORK STUDIO
COMPLETED Q1 2018
Design ◦ Project Management
The challenge of this project was the rapid and ultra low-cost conversion of an existing partitioned office unit to a fully functional live-work space. The micro budget and minimal timeline for this conversion meant that each move had to be carefully considered in relation to cost and construction speed. Only the necessary services were added; all interventions were made in a way to minimize disruption to existing electrical, water and plumbing, and in consideration of the abilities and existing know-how of the builders.
Spatially, rather than create a completely open studio, the design instead creates a series of different environments—allowing for varied living arrangements and places of refuge and novelty. A series of curtains cutting across the studio adds further dimensions to this spatial flexibility—namely a temporal variable to each environment as well as the possibility of gradients of privacy.
