DESIGN FOR WORKERS

About

The Office as a Project is a research-led workplace design studio, based in Toronto. From small business space planning, corporate test-fits to organizational change and beyond, we design for workers.

Your office is our project

Workplace design is more than squeezing every last square metre of efficiency into your desk layout, or simply picking out the right furniture. It’s more than one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter solutions, like the latest ‘future of work’ trends or click-friendly aesthetics.

Workplace design is about engaging workers. It’s about building effectiveness, trust and ultimately a space—and design process—that unlocks the power of your teams and reflects your values.

Spaces of work are our obsession, and the office is our project.

What we stand for & How to work with us

i. principles

What we Work Against:
Against the authoritarian tendencies of office life
Against the alienation of workers from the design (process) of their spaces and organizations
Against aesthetic trends, unquestioned conventions, buzzwords, and solutions in search of problems

What we Work Towards:
Towards greater participation, ownership, effectiveness, and meaning at work
Towards design solutions for unique needs
Towards difficult consensus; stakeholders, not shareholders
Towards resilient human connections; degrowth; reuse
Towards spaces for workers, with workers
